One of the season’s first fires in the province was ignited on May 2, in the Fox Lake community, at the top of this image. On that day, officials in Alberta declared a provincial state of emergency.Īs of May 8, there were 29 fires burning out of control in Alberta, which has been hit hardest by the fires. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired this image (above) of smoke billowing from fires in the two Canadian provinces on May 6, 2023. The fires destroyed homes and produced chimneys of smoke that reached into the upper troposphere. In this way they make a damage to the Maps that is bigger than the benefit that we can have from an updated image from the satellite.More than 100 wildland fires raged across Western Canada in early May 2023, forcing tens of thousands of people in Alberta and British Columbia to evacuate. I have discovered great contributors, but sometimes I have a big delusion, and I see that s ome of us unfortunately is more for points than for helping people, uploading duplicate photos, or stolen photos, violating the rules tat we should follow, and I am always asking to myself: "why do they do this?". When someone, like you, is talking about providing correct information, I like to check the profile in Maps, because I wants to learn from who wants to provide correct information. Google is actually working in several improvement of the Map, and they prioritize what give benefit and is helpful for a bigger amount of people.Įven if I am an extreme lover of Google Earth, I think that there are things that really should be improved first, because there are more ways to inform the people about places, and one of them is what we do as Local Guides, or at least what we should do. Well an ideal world everything is perfect, free and always updated.
